Caversham Wildlife Park

Caversham Wildlife Park is a great Perth attraction to visit for a real Australian experience. There are plenty of opportunities to get up close and personal with many Australian animals such as wombats, kangaroos, lizards and koalas.

Caversham Wildlife Park is located in Whiteman Park near the Swan Valley. When you enter the park you are given a map with information about the interactive shows and feeding times of the animals. I highly suggest you work out what you want to do and make sure you get to the shows and feedings in time so you are not disappointed.

The park is easy to get around and is well signed. There are various sections to the park where you will find many animals, birds and reptiles. Some of the animals can be a little trick to find as they may be hiding in tree logs or under branches so make sure you have a good look around the enclosure.

During the day you are able to feed the kangaroos at your own leisure. In the enclosure you can wander around the paths and hand feed the kangaroos. There are bins full of food, place the food in the palm of your hand and hold it out for a kangaroo and there is a good chance they will eat the food right out of the palm of your hand. There are certain areas that are roped off and you are unable to enter these sections however there are always plenty of kangaroos in the main area you can see. There are many different varieties of kangaroos and wallabies in the spacious enclosure.

There are different times of the day when you can meet the Koalas. The koalas are situated in trees at shoulder height where you can stand next to them and get a photo.

The Australian Homestead Arena is an interactive place where you can hold snakes, lizards get close to possums and have your photo with a very large wombat! The staff are very knowledgeable about the animals and they can help answer any questions you might have.

Three times a day there is a farm show which gives you a glimpse of life on the farm. A stockman on horseback will bring the sheep into the yards for shearing. Watch the sheep dogs round up the sheep. They will also show you how to crack a stockwhip and bottle feed a lamb. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in the show!!

Last but not least there is Molly’s farm where you can roam around and see all the farm animals. If you would like to feed the animals you can do so and watch of for the goat as he likes to eat your map!!

The park is mainly outdoors so make sure you are prepared for the weather. There is a kiosk which offers a wide selection of food and refreshments. It is a great day out to meet many Australian animals.
